HARVEST FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS, 2011

Brad, Ken, Name, Tina, Graham, and John

Members of The Brooklin Poetry Society recently gathered together to participate in the 6th annual Brooklin Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 10th, in an effort to promote youth literacy and voices within their community and surrounding areas. The festival's large audience were treated to a live, exclusive performance of poetic talent lead by the Society's Chairman Bradley McIlwain, following the exceptional readings of Graham Ducker, Ken McCallion, John Di Leonardo, Diana Rigby and an engaging performance of children's poetry from one of the group's founding members, Theresa Donnelly Ghazzawi.
In coordination with Group 74, the Harvest Festival and support from local businesses, The Brooklin Poetry Society was able to establish its first annual youth poetry anthology and contest, giving voice to a talented generation of inspiring writers and thinkers, and a chance to see their name in print. During the festival, entrants were encouraged to create an original work on any form or theme using an on the spot writing exercise. On Saturday, October 1st, entrants will be presented with a printed anthology at Campkins of Wellingborough Tea House, and have the opportunity to read from their work in front of family and friends, in addition to being entered to win one of the top three prizes.
The Brooklin Poetry Society is run by Bradley McIlwain, who works as a freelance writer and reporter in rural Ontario. Bradley McIlwain received his Bachelor of Arts, Honours in English Literature from Trent University, and has been published in national and international magazines both online and in print.
